What does Jayden Bogle need to do to get into discussions for the squad? I mean, he shredded Hall on Monday.

    Ben, London

Surprised not to see Leeds United's Jayden Bogle given an opportunity to show what he could bring at right back.

    Darren, Stratford-upon-Avon

I'm not sure what more Jayden Bogle needs to do to be given a chance, been brilliant this season so far and one of the most consistent performers in his position last season too.

  2. Steele replaces injured Henderson

Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele has been included in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the extended international break over September and October.

The 36-year-old has comes in to replace injured Dean Henderson.

He started his career in Middlesbrough, with loan spells at Northampton and Blackburn before making the move permanent. He later joined Sunderland in the 2017-18 season.

Steele moved to Brighton in 2018, where he has featured 64 times so far.

He made appearances for England's youth national teams and the Great Britain Olympic team in 2012.

Tuchel included him as a training goalkeeper at the 2026 World Cup.

  4. Get Involved - 'One of the best PL left-backs'

Better than the World Cup squad in my opinion. Shame Tuchel didn't realise what Lewis Hall could offer then really.

    Stephen, West Midlands

Lewis Hall was missed during the World Cup, so he’ll certainly be making a big influence. One of the best left backs in the Premier League.

  5. Who has Tuchel added?

Meanwhile, it's a good morning to be any of these players, who have been named in Tuchel's squad after missing out on the World Cup.

    • Trent Alexander-Arnold
    • Jarrad Branthwaite
    • Lewis Hall
    • Myles Lewis-Skelly
    • Alex Scott
    • Dominic Calvert-Lewin
    • Jason Steele
    • Rio Ngumoha
    • Cole Palmer

  6. Get Involved - 'Continually ignored'

Click 'Get Involved' at the top of this page to have your say

No Gibbs-White is unbelievable… probably the best 10 in England at the moment on form. Versatile, passionate, created, scores… Much better choice then others he has selected…

    Aaron, Sutton Coldfield

No Morgan Gibbs-White... What does he have to do to be selected?

    Caroline, Leeds

Please tell me why Gibbs-White is not in the squad? A disgrace. Really, what does he have to do? Mainoo and Skelly? Why? Cos they play for Utd and Arsenal?

  7. Who are the key omissions?

Let's take a look at the biggest names left off Tuchel's list:

    • Phil Foden
    • Noni Madueke
    • Morgan Gibbs-White
    • Reece James
    • Ollie Watkins
    • Harry Maguire
    • Djed Spence
    • Adam Wharton

Of those, Madueke, Watkins, James and Spence all made the World Cup squad.

So, no Phil Foden, no Noni Madueke, and Morgan Gibbs-White also misses out, again.

    Who else will feel disappointed?

Remember that Dean Henderson, Ben White, Dan Burn and Jordan Henderson are unavailable for selection through injury.

Not necessarily a Chelsea fan but now's the time to bring Palmer back in, and as much as I like Rogers he has to realise Saka is the better option.

    Chris, Sidmouth

I feel he will add Cole Palmer into his squad. He could be an extra boost in the attack to try to cross balls in to Kane if he gets in or try and have a shot.

    Logan, Wembley

  11. Will Palmer and Foden return?

Cole Palmer and Phil FodenGetty Images

Two of the biggest names omitted from England's World Cup squad were Cole Palmer and Phil Foden, who missed out amid the plethora of attacking midfield talent at Thomas Tuchel's disposal.

Palmer missed out after a below-par campaign for a below-par Chelsea side, although he scored 11 goals in 34 games. He struggled with a groin injury as the Blues finished 10th in the Premier League.

This season Palmer looks rejuvenated under new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso. He has scored four goals in six games across all competitions and has played all but seven minutes of the Blues' league campaign so far - will that earn him a place back in the England squad?

Foden meanwhile has had a quieter start - no goals in six games across all competitions for Manchester City, although he did provide two assists in the 4-1 league win at Crystal Palace.

He was sent off in the first half of City's derby win at Manchester United - but any suspension will of course not apply to international football.

  12. Could Ngumoha win his first proper call-up to the senior squad?

    Sami Mokbel

Rio Ngumoha is hoping to earn his first call-up today. The Liverpool winger, 18, was part of a group of young players that travelled to America ahead of the World Cup for England’s pre-tournament training camp in Florida and even made his debut coming on as a substitute in the friendly win over New Zealand. But, if selected, this would be his first proper call-up into the senior squad.

  13. Are some of the players overlooked for the World Cup likely to return and which new names may feature?

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Before naming his full squad, Tuchel was required to submit a preliminary squad of players from which he will name his final party.

It is understood Lewis Hall of Newcastle, Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly and Everton pair Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite are among the names selected in Tuchel's extended list.

Hall's World Cup omission raised eyebrows given England entered the tournament without a natural left-back.

Attacking duo Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are on there too, after being two of the biggest omissions from Tuchel's squad for the World Cup.

That decision was deemed a mistake from certain circles, given they are two of English football's most creative players.

Meanwhile, Tuchel is expected to omit Jordan Henderson, Dean Henderson and John Stones because of injury.

  14. Scott missed out on England's World Cup squad - one of many who were omitted from the trip to North America...

Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott is set to be named in England’s first full squad since the World Cup.

Scott has scored a goal so far in the Premier League this season. on Thursday, he made an assist in Bournemouth's Europa League win over Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old has made appearances for England's various youth teams since 2021.

He was called up in November 2025 by Thomas Tuchel but did not make his debut then.

Scott joined the senior men's team for squad preparation before the 2026 World Cup.

  16. Could Branthwaite provide a solution for Tuchel?

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

One to keep an eye on this morning is Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. He was named in the provisional long list of players and Thomas Tuchel had been impressed by the centre-back’s display since the start of the season. With John Stones expected to be injured, Branthwaite could prove a solution for Tuchel.

I'd forgotten about the international (extended) break. That's my day (and subsequent weekends) ruined.

    Stefan, St Albans

  19. Why is this international break so long?

Previously, there were three breaks of two weeks in September, October and November for international football, with nations generally playing two games in each window. That has changed in 2026-27.

Instead of separate breaks in September and October, there is now a three-week gap for international fixtures across late September and early October with four matches being played.

This is in part due to the later start to elite domestic football season this year; with the 2026 World Cup final taking place on 19 July, most top divisions did not resume until mid to late August.

Usually the first international break takes place in early September. By pushing it back, it allows players are longer time before they cross continents to represent their countries again. It also avoids the possibility of pausing domestic football just one or two games after their seasons start.

The readjusted schedule also allows for an extra week of domestic football between the end of the first break and the start of the second in November.

  20. Get Involved - 'Tuchel should follow Klopp's lead'

Would love for Tuchel to take Klopp's approach. Pick two squads and split the games. Having such a long international break so soon after a disrupted summer it is of a benefit to England that our players are kept fresh. It will also allow Tuchel to see more players.
