Marink Reedijk is still waiting for his first win as Hibernian manager after a late St Mirren equaliser snatched a Scottish Premiership draw in Paisley.

Marko Ivezic looked like he had claimed all three points for the capital side when he scrambled the ball in following a corner with just 12 minutes to play.

It was, remarkably, the first effort on target from either side in a match largely devoid of any quality.

Hibs' lead only lasted four minutes, though, before Killian Phillips - on his 100th St Mirren appearance - delivered a corner which was eventually scrambled in with visiting defender Jason Kerr getting the final touch.

The home side then laid siege to the Hibs goal, with Calvin Ramsay putting a good chance over before Raphael Sallinger produced a strong, point-blank save to preserve a point for the capital side.

The late burst of action and chances came in stark contrast to the preceding 80-odd minutes.

It was summed up shortly after the break when the ball broke to visiting midfielder Joe Newell around 30 yards from an unguarded goal. The idea of his curling shot was good, but his execution wasn't, as the ball drifted harmlessly wide.

The first period was largely uneventful, with the visitors having the lion's share of possession (57 per cent) but failing really to do anything concrete with it. No big chances, no shots on target, no problem wiping it from the collective memory.

The second period promised more and eventually delivered. Two late goals, a flurry of other chances and both sides probably happy enough to shake hands on a share of the spoils.

St Mirren analysis: Injuries taking toll

With Jonah Ayunga facing a tidy up operation on a knee, Australia international Keanu Baccus continuing to recover from an Achilles problem and striker Niko Agrafiotis also out, the last thing St Mirren needed was another injury.

Forward Ismael Kabia is the latest to pick up a problem, which meant a start for Chris Mochrie.

St Mirren were solid, if uninspiring, but given their recent run of five straight defeats, this draw to add to the win over Dundee means four points have been gathered from six. A decent return as St Mirren look to consolidate their status as a top-six side.

Home manager Craig McLeish will be delighted at the response from his side after going behind with only 12 minutes left to play. St Mirren could, arguably should, have won but couldn't take any of the late chances they created.

Hibs analysis: Plenty of possession but little to show

Reedijk wants his side to dominate the ball and dictate play. To that end, he can be pretty happy with the way his men went about their business.

They pressed well, controlled much of the flow of the action and just lacked an added element of quality and creativity at the top end of the pitch.

If he can get his strikers firing - or get some goal contributions from midfield - you can see how things could improve for the Dutchman. His side are missing a clinical edge. They'll hope to find it at the national stadium this weekend in the big Edinburgh derby League Cup semi-final.

The goal they scored was as scrappy as they come but Hibs won't mind how they go in at the moment. With a bit more finesse in the final third, Reedijk's men will have plenty of scope for improvement.

What they said

St Mirren manager Craig McLeish: "Positive that we came away with a point on a night where we probably haven't hit our levels in terms of performance.

"I thought defensively we looked solid. Probably not a game that looks exactly how we want it to be but you're going to have nights where you're not quite at it and we've still managed to come away with a point.

"The response to going a goal down was excellent and we probably had two or three clear cut chances after that to go and win the game, I think a point is fair for both sides."

Hibs head coach Marink Reedijk: "I think we should have three points. There is a pride in how the guys fought for the club, for each other, for every metre on the pitch.

"It's unfortunate because I think we deserved more than just one point however we have to live with that. We saw improvements, we saw a team who pressed high, regained the ball high and on the ball we were composed and clinical. This is a good step, a point is a point and we continue to Sunday."
