  5. A must pick or unreliable? Tuchel's Palmer dilemmapublished at 10:00 GMT

Has Cole Palmer done enough to earn an England call-up for their November Nations League games against Croatia and Spain?

The 24-year-old Chelsea forward is regarded as one of the stars at Stamford Bridge, but his status with the Three Lions has been the subject of major debate, particularly since Thomas Tuchel's appointment as manager at the beginning of 2025.

Palmer's withdrawal from the most recent extended three-week camp came after his omission from their World Cup squad, prompting Tuchel to say he "misses too many opportunities to play for England".

Yet there is an argument Palmer has done enough to earn an England recall with his start to this campaign - despite Tuchel's obvious reservations.

Having scored five goals and provided three assists in all competitions, only his Chelsea team-mate Morgan Rogers has had more goal involvements during the opening months of the campaign - when looking at players he is in competition with for England.

It must be noted, though, that penalties do inflate Palmer's total more than that of some of those rivals for a Three Lions spot.

  6. Will Tuchel roll the dice on returning Scott?published at 09:57 GMT

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Alex Scott hasn’t played since injuring a thigh whilst playing for England in their demolition of Croatia last month. The Bournemouth midfielder was excellent in the victory in Rijeka and in normal circumstances would be in the squad today.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Scott has now returned to full training and could be available for the Cherries game against Ipswich on Sunday. But given Scott has only just returned to fitness - will Thomas Tuchel risk him after the midfielder suffered the injury whilst playing for England in Croatia?

  7. Josh King in senior squad for the first timepublished at 09:55 GMT

    Alex Howell
    BBC Sport England reporter

Fulham midfielder Josh King is expected to be called up by Thomas Tuchel to the England senior squad for the first time.

The 19-year-old was one of the four players who travelled to the USA as a training player for the preparation camp and Tuchel said he was close to a call last time out.

I don't want to see any "rogue" players being given a chance! People suggesting some crazy names. Josh King is playing well in a weak Fulham team, same for Dewsbury-Hall. Pick the top players who are tried and tested and have delivered for England.

  10. A rare Championship call-up on the cards?published at 09:51 GMT

Will Lankshear celebratingImage source, Getty Images

There is a lack of number nines in the English game and the job of being Harry Kane's understudy is harder than it sounds.

The England captain has just won the Ballon d'Or, likes to play almost every minute for his country and is the captain, record goalscorer and arguably the best player in Tuchel's side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been selected in the squads before and since the World Cup but, despite doing well for Leeds, it has not quite clicked for him under Tuchel and he was given just 15 minutes in two substitute appearances in the last window.

Tuchel has started to use Bellingham as the back-up to Kane, but he could opt for more of a prospect in his squad in this shorter window and turn to Will Lankshear.

The 21-year-old striker, who like Kane started at Tottenham, was sold to Middlesbrough this summer for £20m and has scored 15 goals in all competitions so far this campaign.

He has scored 13 goals in as many games in the Championship, helping Middlesbrough to the top of the division.

He only made his debut for the England Under-21s during the last international window and scored in that game so it would be quite a rise for a player who is not in the Premier League.

Tuchel is aware of Lankshear and with a lack of number nines across the age groups it could be an interesting option for a manager who is not afraid of making big calls.

Would like to see Will Lankshear in the squad. Would be good to see if he can mix in with the big boys.

Lankshear needs to be in the squad. Wether he gets game time or not depends on how the games are going, but Tuchel needs to see him in that environment

  12. The Henderson debate - should the Chelsea man be included?published at 09:45 GMT

Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson applaudingImage source, Getty Images

Chelsea midfielder Jordan Henderson has not been in the England set-up since the World Cup, where he fell over an advertising hoarding following the win over Mexico in the Azteca Stadium and broke his arm.

Many would have thought the 36-year-old's international career was over but Henderson, then at Brentford, made a move to Chelsea as they looked to add experience to their young squad.

After recovering from the arm injury, Henderson has surprised some to become an important part of the Chelsea midfield, starting five games in a row and scoring twice in a win over Bournemouth, before he missed the Blues' win over Manchester United with injury.

Henderson is a popular figure, respected by staff and players and is again performing at the top level.

His inclusion is often one of the biggest reasons for debate but now he's involved so regularly in west London, would it cause less of a stir?

I would be surprised to see a player like Rudoni, KDH or Tavenier. There are always discussions about those types of players being given a chance and it very rarely happens unless they are young and have potential like we've seen with Scott.

  15. Who could receive their first call-up?published at 09:35 GMT

Some of the more exciting selection decisions we could see revolve around potential debuts for the upcoming England camp.

There are three names on the cards that could earn their first call-up including 28-year-old Everton midfielder, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

The Toffees number 10 has turned down call-ups from the Republic of Ireland as he focuses on his dream of trying to represent the Three Lions.

He has been one of the Toffees' standout performers having scored two goals and registered two assists in all competitions, helping Everton to seventh in the league.

And young Fulham midfielder Josh King is another name to look out for with the 19-year-old already coming close to earning a senior England debut.

King travelled to the US as part of the preparation squad before the World Cup, along with Alex Scott, Ethan Nwaneri and Rio Ngumoha.

Tuchel said in his last news conference how King is close to a senior call-up and the midfielder has impressed for England Under-21s too.

Marcus Rashford, who has been a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s reign as England manager, is not expected to be fit enough to be selected.

The Manchester United forward is suffering from a hip issue but is stepping up his recovery.

However, sources have indicated he is unlikely to play again until after the games against Croatia and Spain.

  20. Will Palmer return to the fold?published at 09:19 GMT

England have made medical checks on Cole Palmer as Thomas Tuchel considers whether to select the Chelsea forward in his next squad.

The 24-year-old missed all four games during the previous international window with a minor injury.

He completed 90 minutes for Chelsea against Brentford before those matches, and started for the Blues in the first game afterwards.

Tuchel, who names his squad to face Croatia and Spain on Friday, said at the time that Palmer was "playing with discomfort and pain" but was "missing too many opportunities" with England.

Whether he is recalled will be a key theme on Friday. While it is normal for England medical staff to check on players under consideration, it also underlines that Palmer remains on Tuchel's radar despite his stark comments in September.
