"It's a very dangerous year so our first and foremost target is to achieve 40 points and to make sure we again earn the right to stay in the best league in the world. If there is more to achieve then step-by-step but we stay humble and realistic and know that a difficult season lies ahead."

Newcastle United have agreed to purchase the site for a new £190m state-of-the-art training ground.

The club will acquire 260 acres of land at the Woolsington Hall estate owned by former chairman Sir John Hall.

Newcastle plan to build new elite performance facilities for the men's first team and academy, with the flexibility to integrate bespoke women's facilities as well.

A formal planning application is expected to be submitted in early 2027 with a view to the men's first team moving in for the 2029-30 campaign.

Chief executive David Hopkinson said it was a "landmark moment" for the club.

"Subject to planning permission, our proposed performance complex will create the world's best performance environment for our teams," he said.

"We'll develop purpose-built facilities that are geared towards developing sustainable success in the future, where players, coaches and staff can perform at their very best every day.

"We will be submitting a detailed planning application that not only demonstrates our vision, but also how we will preserve and enhance a historic estate, its biodiversity and wildlife habitats, and how we'll be a great neighbour."

The club said they were committed to delivering the project "sustainably and responsibly" and stressed they will work "closely with the local community and local authorities as plans develop".

"Dan is a leader and as a captain, he told you that probably also on purpose because he's realistic, he sees the situation and I totally agree. And that can give us a strength.

"I mention that already in previous press conferences, if there's good synergy with the fans, and they will back us, I'm 100% convinced that together with players and staff members that could create this benefit and we want to use that."

"He's ready. It will be different [for Dedic, playing in the Premier League], as always for new signings, they need to adapt. It will be the same for Amar. He came a bit later back as well to his former club due to the national team. In general he is looking really fit. He got some minutes in friendlies there I am confident that he's ready and we need him."

"I think he is the perfect fit and addition to the squad. He can play both full back positions. Even in the youth he played a couple of times centre back.

"He is versatile in his approach. He knows our playing style, due to our time together at Salzburg, which is always beneficial, especially when you don't have too much time to train."

On Andoni Iraola leaving the club: "It was his [Andoni Iraola] decision to go. The club needed a new coach, so someone has to do the job, that's for sure.

"If he's not here any more, there needs to be another one [coach] and that's me.

"I love to be here. It was a conscious decision because of the talks and the observing of the team that I did. I am here because the club thought that it was a good idea to bring a coach who has a similar approach to the former coach."
