In fact, is it a Bournemouth penalty?

It hits a hand after Evanilson's header. It would be very harsh.

He has to get a better contact on that. They will take risks, Milan, playing out from the back.

    That should be 1-0 Bournemouth.

It is absolutely hammering it down at Bournemouth.

Could make for a slick playing surface, but definitely the potential for some slips here.

Bournemouth manager Marco Rose speaking to TNT Sports before the match: "Just looking forward to facing a huge club in Europe and to continue our run, using the game to get our next three points."

On selection changes: "We obviously have two or three really good goalkeepers and it's about giving Di Gregorio the opportunity against an Italian side to prove his shape.

"The other changes are more or less, we have had many games so we need to control the load. It's very important for us, we have the League Cup next week and Manchester United at the weekend. The next games are coming so I have to take care of the lads."

I hope Bournemouth win tonight. I wonder though just how many neutrals, even Bournemouth fans would have imagined them odds on to beat AC Milan in Europe a few years ago.

The Bournemouth stadium announcer's message before kick-off: "Well, how did we end up here?"

The Impossible Dream by Andy Williams is playing around the ground, just as it did before the win over Sturm Graz, as AC Milan visit the Vitality Stadium.

It is a well-known story, but one worth retelling. Bournemouth adopted their red-and-black colours as a tribute to the great AC Milan side of the 1960s. The club's initials, AFC, were also intended to evoke the sound of AC, giving Bournemouth a more continental feel.

"We have come full circle," the announcer added.

Oh, now there is a huge pyrotechnics show after all that. Goosebumps.

"I'm pinching myself," says Bournemouth fan Kirk Tovey.

"It's not long ago we were playing Oldham Athletic and Hartlepool United in League One. Now I'm about to watch us play AC Milan.

    "It's absolute madness."

Fifteen years to the day after Bournemouth lost 2-1 at home to Bury in the third tier of English football, the Cherries host seven-time champions of Europe AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday (20:00 BST).

It is a game between the club that refused to die against the 11-time European Cup finalists on what promises to be a momentous night in the history of the 127-year-old Dorset club.

"Over the last decade, my hometown club has achieved dreamland," Tony Pulis, who played for Bournemouth before managing them from 1992-94 and still lives in the area, tells BBC Sport.

"It's an unbelievable story, when I think back to what the club was like when I was player, coach and then manager there in the 1980s and early 1990s, but one that hopefully just keeps going."

Rubbish from the Albion. Looked like the players have got carried away with all the media praise. Hopefully this will do them good in the long run by bringing some egos back down to earth.

Bournemouth have given every supporter a commemorative scarf, and they will no doubt be on display before kick-off.

It is a nice touch from the Cherries before their glamour tie in the league phase of the Europa League.

Of course, this is also the club's first-ever European campaign in their 127-year history.

It looks like another tifo has been prepared to be on display in one of their ends. This is a club fully embracing the journey.

  15. Palace's defensive strugglespublished at 19:51 BST 22 October

Besiktas v Crystal Palace (20:00 BST)

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Crystal Palace's recent DNA is rooted in defensive stability. Predecessors Oliver Glasner and Roy Hodgson produced well-organised teams with a solid base for its attacking players.

Conceding close to 2.5 goals per game is so far removed from what the team's recent successes has been built upon that it has raised major concern from the club's powerbrokers.

Palace are currently on course to concede 92 goals this season. No club has conceded more since Sheffield United shipped 104 goals to finish bottom in 2024.

Personnel is contributing to those defensive deficiencies. Losing Guehi, Lacroix and Munoz in the space of six months represent significant losses.

From the three centre-backs that started in Sunday's 5-0 loss to Brighton, Jaydee Canvot is 20 years old and Honest Ahanor only 18.

Nevertheless, there is a clear sense from inside the club that Pierre Sage's system and approach has been a major contributing factor towards their troubles in defence.

  16. 'We now have to show our real face'published at 19:49 BST 22 October

Besiktas v Crystal Palace (20:00 BST)

The pressure will be increasing on Crystal Palace boss Pierre Sage following the 5-0 loss to Brighton at the weekend.

The Eagles were also beaten in the Europa League last-time out, losing 3-2 to Lyon.

"Sometimes we have to switch quickly, and it's the case this time," said Sage on the Brighton loss.

"It was a tough defeat in a context, you know, and we have to forget this quickly, because now we have to show our real face in a big atmosphere."

Poor from Sunderland, Leverkusen put 4 past Poznan last week and it should've been the same tonight. The Europa League was a nice distraction from our precarious league position.

There are around 600 visiting fans making the trip from the Italian fashion capital to England's south coast for this one.

They gathered in the town centre before being ushered on to a train bound for the stadium ahead of kick-off.

While the travelling support is not especially large given the size of the away end, there is still a strong AC Milan presence around the ground.

A sizeable media contingent has also made the journey, while others have headed to the stadium in the hope of catching a glimpse of the Milan players despite not having tickets.

This game sees Ruben Amorim return to England for the first time since his sacking by Manchester United last reason.

The Portuguese manager was appointed by AC Milan in the summer and has guided them to an unbeaten Serie A start, that has them fourth. They lost their opening Europa League but won at Red Bull Salzburg last week.

He's even used a back four at times!

"It is different time - there are different situations in life. I am better now," Amorim told TNT Sports.

"I've made my peace with the last adventure and I'm really excited for the new one. I am really grateful for everything that happened - it brought me here."
