Myles Lewis-Skelly's development has been rapid since his breakthrough in the 2024-25 season - he took his chance when injury was rife in the Arsenal squad to become one of the best young full-backs in the Premier League
What was most impressive about his breakthrough is that left-back is not even Lewis-Skelly's natural position.
The teenager came through Arsenal's Hale End academy as a midfielder and has always maintained that is his best position, even if the role of full-back provided him the platform to showcase his talents in the Gunners' first team.
However, despite such a strong finish to his first campaign, last season was much more of a test for the teenager as Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie moved ahead of him in the left back order.
But with Martin Zubimendi's performances fading towards the end of last season, Lewis-Skelly was finally given a chance to showcase his ability in midfield against Fulham - with four games of the Premier League campaign remaining.
His performance was so good that Lewis-Skelly then started all but one game in the end of season run-in, as Arsenal won the Premier League title and were beaten by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League final.

I would love to get Hall at Man Utd or Lewis-Skelly. Rashford if he stays is like a new signing, so defence is the priority. Sesko does have injury worries but I don't think there is a top striker we can afford right now.

There are lots of Lewis‑Skelly rumours in the media this morning, with Chelsea and Manchester United emerging as the standout destinations for the 19‑year‑old.
The Guardian said the left-back has "been offered" to United as a left-back option. Chelsea, it is understood, have also been "made aware" of his availability.
The Telegraph are reporting that Arsenal would be happy to let Lewis-Skelly leave for a fee of £45m, however they said that Chelsea and Manchester United have "turned down" the chance to sign him.
The Times reported that Lewis-Skelly wants to stay at Arsenal and said that Manchester United were "sounded out but are not interested this time".
Not only have the Daily Telegraph reported that Manchester United turned down the chance to sign the left-back, they added that Chelsea have also declined the offer to sign the left-back.
With reports saying Arsenal were happy to let him go for £45m, the Sun are reporting Arsenal in fact wanted £60m for Lewis-Skelly, which Manchester United said would be too high.

Speaking to the Manchester City website, Geronimo Rulli said: “This is an amazing opportunity for me and one I had to grasp.

“Everyone knows what an impressive club this is. City’s success over a long time has been impressive. Everyone I have spoken to about City said I had to join them because they are a club with incredibly high standards.
“Every professional wants to be in a high-performance environment and I can’t wait to get started because I know I will improve and learn, which is always my main priority.
“My job now is to train hard, get to know the players and staff and do everything I can to reach my best level.”

Spain's World Cup hero Ferran Torres has been given permission to miss Barcelona training to finalise a move to Paris St-Germain.
Torres, 26, scored an extra-time winner against Argentina to help Spain claim their second World Cup this summer.
He had been due to return to training with the Catalan giants on Wednesday but will not do so as a move to PSG gets closer.
The deal with PSG, who play in the Super Cup final against Aston Villa on Wednesday night in Salzburg, is likely to be worth more than £40m.

The 30-year-old joined the Blades on loan in February and made just three appearances for the club having suffered a knee injury.
Phillips joined City from Leeds United on a six-year contract in 2022 in a deal worth £45m and was part of the side which won a historic Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup Treble in 2023.
"This was the move I wanted. My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that so I'm here to put that right," Phillips told the club website.
"The squad is similar to what it was last year, I'm happy to see everyone and I'm looking forward to coming back fighting fit."

Coventry City have re-signed midfielder Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United on a "long-term" contract for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old spent three years with the Sky Blues before moving to Sheffield United in 2023.
He scored 19 goals in 132 appearances in his first spell at Coventry and was named their player of the year in 2021-22.
"To go to the Premier League with Coventry was something I always dreamt of so when the club came back in for me, it was very special so I'm very happy," Hamer said.
"The love I got from the fans was amazing so the only thing I can give back to them is goals, assists and a good performance so that's what I will try to do.
"Of course, you can't score or give an assist every game but what I can do is give 100% for the badge, for the club and for the fans."

Image source, Getty ImagesParis St-Germain boss Luis Enrique sidestepped a question on Liverpool target Bradley Barcola's future.
The forward is wanted by the Reds with the club prepared to pay around £100m to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield.
Barcola is in the PSG squad to face Aston Villa in the Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday.
"I don't know and I don't want to speak about any player individually," Enrique said when asked about Barcola's future.
"Because it's always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team."
Barcola moved to PSG from Lyon in 2023 for a reported £38.5m and has since also won three Ligue 1 titles, the French Cup twice, as well as the Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa Intercontinental Cup.
PSG also have Georgia's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and France's Desire Doue as wide options meaning Barcola's playing time would be increased with a move to Merseyside.

The 22-year-old Paraguay international impressed under current Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil at Strasbourg last season.
The former Bournemouth and Wolves boss, who was appointed manager at Portman Road this summer, pushed for an early reunion.
The move would also mark Enciso's return to Portman Road after a six-month loan spell from Brighton in 2025.
Enciso was highly regarded at French club Strasbourg, which shares ownership with Chelsea through the BlueCo group, and club officials believed he had the potential to earn a move to Stamford Bridge in the future.
Although the fee has not been disclosed at this stage, those involved believe it will account for a sizeable portion of Ipswich's remaining transfer budget and deliver Strasbourg a substantial profit on the £7.7m they paid for him last summer.

While we wait to be interrupted by another done deal, let's round up some of the other transfer news and rumours doing the rounds today...
Squad-cost ratio (SCR) regulations have been implemented for the 2026-27 season, replacing previous profit and sustainability rules.
Uefa has a 70% SCR cap for European competitions, so Premier League clubs who qualified for Europe - like Crystal Palace - fall in line with this limit.
Squad costs are related only to on-pitch spending on a club's senior men's first team, including wages and agent fees.
SCR is a season-specific spending cap tied directly to a club's football-related revenue. It limits on-pitch spending to a percentage of club revenue operates strictly on a single-season basis, meaning the consequences of overspending or a bad financial cycle affect only that specific campaign.
But as they are under these strict rules for 2026-27, Palace are having to watch their pennies.
Evann Guessand is Crystal Palace's fourth signing of the summer - and they are yet to spend a penny on a permanent deal.
As well as Guessand on loan, Palace have signed defenders Oscar Mingueza and Takehiro Tomiyasu on free transfers - plus a swap deal to bring in winger Dwight McNeil, with Brennan Johnson heading the other way to Everton.
The Eagles are in the Europa League this season following their Conference League win last season and with that comes financial obligations.
Palace have to comply with Uefa's squad cost ratio (SCR) when trying to bring in new players during this transfer window.
The SCR obligations are stricter than those of the Premier League and Palace have to deal with the rules put in place by Uefa which caps spending on wages, transfers and agent fees at 70% of club revenue.
