Carlisle United head coach Rob Elliot says he is proud of how his players have responded to their 5-2 humiliation at home against Woking.

Elliot was under severe pressure following that Brunton Park loss on 26 September, which had sections of the home crowd calling for his departure.

But the 3-1 success at Aldershot Town on Saturday came four days after a pressure-lifting 2-0 win at Fylde.

It is the first time Carlisle have won consecutive games under Elliot and it has lifted them back into mid-table in the National League.

"The last two days is the proudest I've been of the players since I've been here," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"They knew the situation with myself and they've responded. If they didn't like me, they could quite easily have got me out of the club, so maybe they like me at the minute!"

The six points on the road in Lancashire and Hampshire followed a five-game winless run that was not what is demanded of a team that is expected to challenge at the top end of the table.

For Elliot, it was more of a glimpse of what he believes the Blues' new-look squad is capable of and he wants no let-up when they welcome Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday (12:30 BST).

"There's some young men in there who need that guidance as they've not played for a big club before," he said.

"If they give the mentality and they're prepared to work and run, the rest is on me. They've done that superbly and then their talent comes out.

"We're going to start seeing the best of them but we can't get carried away."
