Charlie Dean stuck one hand up and it was almost sticking. It was a chance and it was a tough one.

Could she have gone with both hands? She stuck out her left hand but it didn't stick.

Oh, it would've been a worldie.

Annerie Dercksen tries to hit Sophie Ecclestone down the ground but miscues it, and Charlie Dean is teased by the ball looping over her head at mid-off.

She gets one hand to it while leaping mid-air, but pops out as she tries to land.

Brilliant over from Smith to conclude the powerplay.

England can't afford to switch off, though. They were 35-3 after their first six overs and Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight's partnership of 133 showed that you can still catch up through the middle.

After everything. After all of the talk about England's fielding. After all of the work they have put in.

That moment. It's Sophie Ecclestone as well.

What a catch that is from Sophie Ecclestone.

When Laura Wolvaardt hit that it was almost the same as the last ball, but she dragged it, and it's a fantastic catch. Just setting the standard.

    Huge!

Laura Wolvaardt tries to replicate the previous shot over mid-on, but picks out a leaping Sophie Ecclestone instead!

A fantastic catch, timing the jump to perfection to take it above her head.

  7. SA 43-0published at 5.3 overs

Tazmin Brits has dominated most of the powerplay so far but Laura Wolvaardt joins the party, lofting Linsey Smith down the ground for four.

Yep, good response from Dean as just four more come from the rest of the over.

Charlie Dean is under pressure but she is a wily character and she does cope with it well.

    Welcome, Charlie Dean.

Tazmin Brits clubs the first ball of her spell down the ground for a one-bounce four.

    Crunched.

A fraction too full from Lauren Bell and we are treated to the first Laura Wolvaardt drive of the evening, straight down the ground for four.

Tazmin Brits is the danger here. She has come in and picked up runs.

There are so many South African batters here who can do this job and that is the danger for England.

  13. SA 21-0published at 3 overs

    Target 170

South Africa have previously struggled for top order batters to support Laura Wolvaardt, which is where Tazmin Brits has been crucial for them in recent years.

She helps herself to two boundaries off Linsey Smith, the first is a rather lucky edge but the second is carved nicely past point.

Really think we need to get Laura out early here, she is the one batter than can demolish a score.

    Jem Green

Wolvaardt is a strong off-side player and thrives against deliveries in the channel outside off, usually considered the best line to bowl. However, tempting her a little wider outside off stump is often a risk worth taking by the bowler.

    Wolvaardt's average in T20Is:

    • v channel outside off: 37.35
    • v wide outside off: 16.77

Where Laura Wolvaardt is the definition of elegance at the crease, it's fair to say that Tazmin Brits is rather more agricultural with her technique.

It's still effective, however, as she whacks the ball down the ground for South Africa's first boundary.

  17. SA 4-0published at 1.3 overs

A chorus of boos echoes around The Oval as a Lauren Bell bouncer is deemed too high, and is called a wide.

    (It definitely was, though.)

I think it's below par total on this pitch but in a semi-final it's competitive, and the crowd are going to help England here.

Semi-finals are so hard. Someone is going to go big here.
