On Jakob Ingebrigtsen's comments about Josh Kerr...

I love it. These guys don't like each other and I think it is brilliant. We want more people watching this sport. Them going head-to-head is fantastic. I can't wait to hear what Josh has got to say. We love it.

  3. Kerr absence ruining the sport - Ingebrigtsenpublished at 19:46 BST 13 August

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport

Jakob Ingebrigtsen says he is "very" disappointed Britain's Josh Kerr is not competing at the European Championships, claiming that athletes who choose to miss major competitions are "ruining" the sport.

Last month, Kerr smashed the mile world record, which had stood for 27 years, before winning Commonwealth gold over the distance on home soil in Glasgow.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Ingebrigtsen was complimentary of Kerr's record-breaking performance in London but said he "could never" prioritise a time over a title.

"Of course I am going to go for times, but I don't think you have to do one or the other," Ingebrigtsen said.

Asked if he was disappointed Kerr is not racing in Birmingham, he added: "Very - and I think a lot of people should be, because that is what championships are all about.

"It's not for us as athletes to choose almost where to participate. We have these championships for a reason, and that is for the best athletes to compete - that is the whole point.

"So I definitely think it is ruining the sport if we are not participating. We all have different plans, but I could never see myself in that position."

  5. Hot, hot, hotpublished at 19:37 BST 13 August

Have you been chasing the shade today?

Well, unlike most of the UK, the athletes today have had no choice at Alexander Stadium.

Earlier, there were highs of 35C in Birmingham, but temperatures have now dropped to around 33C.

It is forecast to drop below 25C, once all the action is finished tonight.

Hydration is going to be hugely key for all these athletes. Getting electrolytes onboard and a lot of water.

Everyone sitting at home will be hiding from the sun. Imagine having to go out there and annihilating your body to the absolute limit.

Yes, they're all professional athletes. Yes, they train for this, but heat like this can really make it difficult.

If you get those things wrong, cramp sets in, dehydration quickly sets in due to the fact it is sapping everything from you.

It can mean performances can go backwards.

One of the things I am good at is switching off, which is a blessing and a curse. For the first time in my career, I soaked it all up.

I tried to sleep. I was just staring at the wall.

Usually I am on the floor trying to catch my breath, but the adrenaline was insane. My coach was like: 'Get out there race and make it hard for them.'

I had the whole world asking if I was injured or hurt. Even the competitors were staring. I was like, shall we put some tape on to wind them up?
