Britain's Amy Hunt, who finished fifth in the 100m in 11.04 seconds: "I was coming in here and not thinking too much about the time. It was more about a process thing and it was such a competitive line-up.

"I just wanted to make a good show of myself, equip myself well and to come fifth in that line-up - I think I had the slowest season's best coming in and obviously very, very tired legs - I'm really really happy with that."

It's second for Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech, ahead of Yared Nuguse.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, still rusty over the shorter distance after his long injury layoff, finishes fifth, while GB's Jake Heyward is ninth in 3:32.73.

Who will take this one on?

Cole Hocker asserts himself at the front of the pack, behind the two pacemakers. Yared Nuguse then makes his move at the bell, and here comes Kenya's Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech...

But it is Olympic champion Hocker who finishes strongest, crossing the line in three minutes 31.71 seconds.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen had been out for 324 days, but he knew he was going to win from 600m out.

The Norwegian star announced his comeback from injury by winning the European 5,000m title in Birmingham this month.

And then wasted no time in reigniting his rivalry with Great Britain's Josh Kerr.

After the 25-year-old won a record-equalling seventh European Championship gold, Ingebrigtsen told BBC Sport he was "very" disappointed by Kerr's decision not to compete at the championships, claiming that athletes who choose to miss major competitions are "ruining" the sport.

Tonight, Ingebrigtsen races over 1500m against a stacked field featuring Olympic medallists Cole Hocker and Yared Nuguse, and world champion Isaac Nader.

Both Armand Duplantis and Emmanouil Karalis are locked in and attempting 6.32m.

Duplantis currently leads the competition with his clearance over 6.25m. Two more attempts to come for both athletes.

Emmanuel Wanyonyi is desperately trying to hang on to the world record pace as the second pacemaker drops out.

It's not going to be, but it is a world-leading one minute 41.76 seconds for Kenya's Olympic and world champion, who is pushed all the way by Djamel Sedjati.

It is not only the eagerly anticipated women's 800m which could see a world record come under threat this evening.

Kenya's Olympic and world champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi, the second-fastest man over the distance of all time, has also been speaking about the possibility of making history sometime soon.

His compatriot David Rudisha's record time of one minute 40.91 seconds has stood since the London 2012 Olympics. Wanyonyi's personal best is just two tenths of a second shy of that mark.

He is joined in tonight's race by the fifth and sixth fastest men in history, in Algerian Djamel Sedjati and Frenchman Gabriel Tual.

Not long ago, Brazil's Alison dos Santos broke the 400m hurdles world record with a stunning run of 45.80 seconds.

Armand Duplantis responds to Emmanouil Karalis' personal best clearance at 6.20m by jumping 6.25m.

The Swedish superstar looks really up for this. I'm getting more world record vibes here...

On the track, Uganda's Peruth Chemutai and and Kenya's Faith Cherotich, the fastest two athletes in the world this year, are locked in battle on the final lap.

Kenyan Doris Lemngole is the only other athlete who can stick with them, but it's Cherotich who finishes the strongest to win in eight minutes 55.82 seconds.

GB's Thorner places fifth in 9:11.41.

Emmanouil Karalis responds by raising the bar to 6.20 metres.

And he does it! A personal best by the Greek challenger, and the pressure is on Armand Duplantis.

In the men's pole vault, Armand Duplantis and Greek rival Emmanouil Karalis are the only two athletes to have gone clear at 6.10 metres.

Duplantis raises the bar to 6.15m and soars over at the first time of asking.

After winning her first senior international medal, with silver at the Commonwealth Games, Elise Thorner lined up for the European Championships with high expectations.

The 25-year-old entered as - and remains - the fastest European woman this year in her event, but just missed out on the podium in Birmingham, finishing fifth.

But it has nonetheless been a season of significant improvement for Thorner, who has lowered her personal best by almost nine seconds to 9:05.45 - leaving her just over a second off Lizzie Bird's British record of nine minutes 04.35 seconds.

Uganda's Peruth Chemutai and and Kenya's Faith Cherotich, the fastest two athletes in the world this year with sub-8:52 clockings.

The full European podium is also present, in Germans Gesa Felicitas Krause and Olivia Gurth, and France's Alice Finot.

And we're only just getting warmed up in Zurich, too.
