    Awful news to bring you.

    Well done Kate O'Connor.

Brilliant two days and there she gets the official announcement.

What a summer it has been.

The pressure of expectation that she took into the Commonwealths and she stood strong.

The pressure coming here was greater, and she stood stronger.

I think the future is in your head is there for any athlete. There is always the possibility of another championships and another Olympic Games, but your body gets older. If Katarina Johnson-Thompson can stay healthy, who knows?

Katarina Johnson-Thompson finishes last, but she's got a smile on her face. The 33-year-old has accepted that she isn't at her best at these Championships and she's decided to enjoy the occasion and soak up the atmosphere.

The 800m in the heptathlon will be split into two heats, with the bottom 12 in the overall standings going first, followed by the top 11.

Britain's Jade O'Dowda and Katarina Johnson-Thompson are ranked 13th and 19th respectively, so they'll be going in this first one.

Two-time Johnson-Thompson said yesterday she was "just happy to be here" after an injury-disrupted season, but I'm sure she will be hoping to finish on a high in the 800m - typically her strongest event.

    Off they go...

Great Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell, speaking to BBC Sport after coming through her 1500m heat this morning: "Sometimes you need to take a minute and reflect to see how far you have come.

"I only became a pro in 2024 just after the Olympic Games, that whole year was about maybe I could make it to the Olympics.

"Now we're here a few years on and the bar keeps changing - I am still in the honeymoon period with it. I am loving being an athlete. I was working in a office job for seven years."

For me in London at the 2012 Olympics, I came into the javelin knowing it [medal win] was going to happen, but you have to take all those thoughts out of your mind.

Things can always go wrong in the heptathlon. There's always something that can not go your way.

It is all about keeping so focussed on each event and not getting carried away.
