But she is absolutely a European champion.

There is no more decorated athlete in European Championships than Dina Asher-Smith.

She has 10 medals at these championships, level with Polish sprinter Irena Szewińska.

And seven of them are gold, the joint-record with Croatian discus thrower Sandra Elkasevic and Norway's middle distance king Jakob Ingebrigtsen.

It all started with an electric start from Dina Asher-Smith. She exploded out of the blocks. No hesitation whatsoever. It was really good to see Dina so controlled around that bend. They will enjoy this moment. They worked hard. It is nice to see they're genuinely celebrating with each other and happy together.

You could not ask for a better relay performance than that.

The stars of Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt set GB up perfectly, before Success Eduan had them in the lead for the final changeover.

And that last leg by Imani Lansiquot was essentially a lap of honour. An all-time great moment in British athletics.

Three flawless handovers of the baton, four flawless legs.

Britain win gold in a stunning time of 42.05 seconds - the quickest time in Europe this year.

Switzerland take gold in 43.12secs - more than a second behind the Brits. They were barely in the camera frame!

Poland win bronze, edging out well-fancied Italy.

The men's race time was a bit slower than we were expecting, maybe the weather affected that.

Dina Asher-Smith will run the first leg for GB, handing over to 100m and 200m champion Amy Hunt.

Success Eduan goes third, handing to Imani Lansiquot to hopefully bring home the gold.

Dina Asher-Smith has won six European golds, two silvers and one bronze from five championships.

She could equal the record of seven golds to become the most successful athlete in the history of the competition.

Two athletes jointly hold that record - Croatian discus thrower Sandra Elkasevic (formerly Perkovic) and Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who picked up his seventh title with men's 5,000m victory on the opening night in Birmingham.

The 30-year-old could also draw level with fellow sprinter Irena Szewinska of Poland as the most-decorated European athlete of all time. Szewinska won a total of 10 medals from 1966-1978.

Of other current female athletes, Dutch star Femke Broeders-Bol has five golds and two bronze medals.

There may be some pressure because Amy Hunt is going for another gold medal. The girls might feel that pressure.

When we're in a sport as well where it is so individual, and you're always out there for yourself, it is difficult going into a relay situation. They will be aware that Hunt has had so much success already and that she is hunting two more gold medals.

Italy put everything into that qualification, making sure they put down a marker.

I think probably while we're here we're all talking about the Brits going out there and going to win.

The Italians turned around and asked the questions. 'What are you going to bring in the final because we're running fast?'

The Europeans are a great opportunity for some of the younger names or newer names to come in.

We know Dina Asher-Smith is going to come into this team, but you get to blood athletes, you have that opportunity for them to experience a crowd and to get on the track and gel as a team, which is a hugely important part of it.

These qualifications, as long as you get through safely it is a brilliant place to get experience.

We are individual performers, and Amy Hunt loves to go out there and be centre stage. The dynamic is very different. You're now a collective and it is about performing together.

The relay is about gelling as a collective.

We all know their sensational runners in their own right. To be able to bring that energy, atmosphere and connection between each of the runners is important.

You felt that here - it was smooth and there was no drama. They did the business and got through to the final.

Did someone say iconic? Double sprint champion Amy Hunt is seeking the third of an unprecedented four golds at a single European Championships, while victory for Great Britain would give Dina Asher-Smith a record-equalling seventh title (joining Jakob Ingebrigtsen and discus thrower Sandra Elkasevic).

A medal of any colour for Asher-Smith would match the all-time high of 10 by Polish ex-sprinter Irena Szewinska.

The biggest threat to the defending champions will likely be Olympic and world bronze medallists Germany.
