    Traffic is starting to build in Upper Parliament Street this morning.

    It is a main route through the city centre and it is where several fire engines are parked up.

    Upper Parliament Street was one of many roads that was closed last night, but one lane has since reopened.

    A fire incident commander at the scene said three or four businesses were evacuated, along with about a dozen residents.

    Firefighters will be dampening any hotspots, he added, and will check the structural integrity of the building.

    Tram services through the city centre continue to be affected this morning, with no services between the Nottingham Station and The Forest stops.

    Nottingham Express Transit, which operates the tram network, also said it had turned off the overhead power lines in the area due to the fire.

    The blaze happened in the Escobar building on Market Street, which is between the Royal Centre and Old Market Square stops.

    Police have taped off the scene of the fire. Investigative work is being carried out in Market Street, with at least two fire crews remaining at the scene.

    There are no trams running this morning, so everyone is rushing to either work or school by foot. I can see people snapping the badly damaged Escobar building as they walk past.

    You can still smell the smoke, and debris is scattered on Market Street.

    Bus operator Nottingham City Transport has warned of diversions "in place on all services".

    It has also said "severe delays" are expected if the road closures remain in place during rush hour.

    Richard Leighton, the commander at the scene for the fire service, issued a warning to people heading into the city centre this morning.

    He said: "Our advice would be, if you can, avoid the area at all costs.

    "There will be disruption to public transport certainly in the Market Street area and Upper Parliament [Street]."

    "It's off Market Street, it's the Escobar establishment just off Market Street, but there's heavy traffic disruption that's affecting Upper Parliament Street and surrounding areas," he said.

    "Crews have been at the scene, they have been working extremely hard throughout the night. We were up to 12 appliances here at one point, dealing with a large fire that spread into the roof of the building involved and currently we have extinguished the fire.

    "We are just monitoring it as it progresses, and we will have an investigation throughout the day."

    The fire overnight and resulting road closures are affecting the city's public transport services this morning.

    Nottingham Express Transit, which operates the city's tram network, has said there is no service between the Nottingham Station and The Forest stops.

    It added tram tickets were being accepted on some bus services, including the Nottingham City Transport (NCT) Yellow Line, NCT Orange Line and NCT Navy Line.

    At 22:55 BST on Monday night, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said 12 fire engines were at a blaze at a "residential property" in Market Street.

    Roads were closed in Upper Parliament Street, Lower Parliament Street, Market Street, King Street and Queen Street, the fire service said.

    Trams were stopped in both directions between the Theatre Royal and Market Square.
