Words and Music, presented at the Philharmonic Studio as part of the BBC’s much-loved festival of poetry and performance.
This special broadcast concert marks the 10th anniversary since Contains Strong Language was first broadcast. Suitably inspired by the Number 10, this meeting of words and music takes us through the minds of Austen, Dickens and Tchaikovsky; Mervyn Peake, Chopin and George Sand; Zadie Smith, Pythagoras, Xian Xinghai, Seamus Heaney and more. Liszt and Dante explore the nether regions of the Inferno; Vivaldi and Boccaccio the tenth day of the Decameron, whilst Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky reflect on the significance of the tenth chime of a clock.
