Top seed Chris Guccione is through to Thursday's second round

Australian top seed Chris Guccione made it safely through to the second round of the £20,000 ATP Challenger Series event in Jersey on Wednesday.

The world number 99 beat Czech qualifier Jan Minar 7-6 7-6 at Les Ormes club to set up a second round tie with British qualifier James Ward.

But half of the eight seeds have failed to make it out of the first round.

Only German second seed Andreas Beck and French fifth and sixth seeds Adrian Mannarino and David Guez went through.

British number three Josh Goodall did proceed to the second round after a 6-2 4-6 6-3 win over France's Gary Lugassy.

He is now the top-ranked British player left in the draw after seventh seed and British number two Alex Bogdanovic was knocked out on Monday by Germany's Tobias Kamke.

Goodall will face British number four Alex Slabinsky is Thursday's second round, guaranteeing at least one player from Great Britain making the quarter finals.

In the women's event, all the seeded players progressed through to the second round.
