Cardiff Devils triumphed in the first half of their weekend double-header against Mincoffs Newcastle Vipers with a 4-1 win in Cardiff Bay.
Mike Prpich scored twice while Phil Hill and Tyson Teplitsky added one apiece for the Devils.
Derek Campbell netted for the seventh-ranked Viper, but the win consolidated the Devils' grip on fifth place after Manchester's 6-2 loss against Coventry.
Newcastle host the Devils in Sunday's rematch (1700 GMT).
