Russian Trigger won the 40th Midlands Grand National to be staged at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Saturday.
The seven-year-old streaked clear of the field after the final fence to claim victory, finishing two lengths ahead of second-placed Flintoff.
It was the second National success for trainer Victor Dartnall and jockey Jack Doyle, having also won the Kent race.
"We would hope he would be a Grand National horse next season," said a delighted Dartnall.
Around 16,000 racing fans were at the Staffordshire course to join in the celebrations of a landmark day for the event.
