Coventry Bees captain Chris Harris has escaped serious injury following a heavy crash in Monday's defeat to Lakeside Hammers.

The Bees skipper was taken to hospital for X-rays on his back but was later released and could even ride on Friday.

Co-promoter Colin Pratt said: "Chris is back home now, and that's a relief.

"He'll have to see how he feels before deciding when he can return, but obviously we're hoping he'll be fit to race for us against Wolverhampton."

Injuries have been a problem for Bees all season with Olly Allen also forced to retire from Monday's meeting with a shoulder injury.

Billy Janniro top-scored against Hammers and he is frustrated with the team's jinx.

Janniro told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: “Everybody just keeps getting injured.

“I’ve been injured twice myself which is not very good. Everybody has been injured on the team except for Peter Oakes.”
