Kenya coach hopes for 'miracle'
The Kenyan national team
Kenya lost 3-0 the last time they played Nigeria
Kenya coach Reinhard Fabisch says it will take a miracle for his team to beat Nigeria in Saturday's friendly in Lagos.

The match is a World Cup send-off for the Super Eagles, who want a victory in front of their fans before heading for Japan and Korea.

Despite his apprehensions about the match, Fabisch is excited about playing Nigeria, although he feels inadequate preparations will be Kenya's undoing.

"It's a big honour to play Nigeria, but we've just trained for a few days so we can't expect miracles," Fabisch said.

"It'll be a big surprise if we win.

"The match will be a good build-up for our preparations for Africa Nations Cup eliminations," the Kenya coach added.

Big match

Kenya begin the qualifying phases for the 2004 African Nations Cup by playing Togo on September 6th.

Fabisch is concerned that some of his foreign-based players might not arrive in Lagos in time for Saturday's match.

Musa Otieno, who led Santos to their first title in the South African Premier League, is understood to be in Nairobi but has not reported to the camp.

"Most of the players I have now are inexperienced," Fabisch pointed out.

"For such a big match the professional players will be a major asset,'' he added.

Last time the Harambee Stars played the Super Eagles was four years ago in the World Cup qualifiers.

The Kenyans were hammered 3-0 in Lagos after holding Nigeria to a surprise 1-1 draw in the first leg encounter in Nairobi.
