Cash boost for Senegalese clubs
The fortunes of Senegalese football has improved since 2000
The fortunes of Senegalese football has improved since 2000
Senegalese clubs in the African club competitions have received a £90,000 cash boost from the government.

The cash is meant to subsidise their participation in the competitions and re-launch Senegal's image.

This comes after the inspiring performance by the national team.

The Lions played the final of the African Nations Cup and also qualified for the World Cup finals - both for the first time.

Senegal's league champions Jeanne d'Arc and CAF Cup representatives, Ndiambour had been low on cash strapped to travel for their matches.

Jeanne d'Arc have received £13,000 to travel to Algiers to face Chabab Belouizdad.

Allowances

Ndiambour, who make the short trip to Burkina Faso to play ASFA Yenenga, received £7,000.

The Cup Winners Cup flag-bearers, Sonacos host their match against Morocco's Wydad Casablanca.

The government said it will pick up the hotel bills for the visitors and allowances for the match officials.

No Senegalese side has ever won the trophy in the three African club competitions.

But in 1998, Jeanne d'Arc reached the final of the CAF Cup.

They, however, lost 3-0 on aggregate to Tunisia's Club Sportive Sfaxien.
