Exeter's Jo Pavey has signalled her intention to compete in October's Great South Run in Portsmouth.

The 37-year-old has only recently returned to action after a toe injury forced her to miss out the European Championships in Barcelona.

Pavey came seventh at the 5K Challenge in London earlier this month.

"I'm looking forward to Portsmouth, where I scored a very satisfying victory in 2006," said Pavey. "It is a fast, flat course, which suits me."

Peter Riley, the elite athletes manager at the Great South Run said: "It is a few years since Jo competed here. Injuries and the birth of her son have kept here away.

"It will be great to see her back in action and I know she will be eager to give it her best shot to regain the title."
