McSharry and Walshe claim silver medals in Baku

McSharry and Walshe are back in action on Friday

Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe both secured silver medals on day one of the World Aquatics World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Olympic bronze medallist McSharry came second in her 200m breaststroke final, with the 26-year-old from County Sligo finishing in 2:18.45, just 0.18 seconds outside her Irish record she set at the 2025 World Cup.
Russia's Evgeniia Chikunova took gold in 2:17.20, with Vitalina Simonova securung bronze in 2:21.21.
Dublin's Walshe came second in the 200m butterfly in a time of 2:05.58.
The 25-year-old produced a strong swim to finish behind China's Chang Mohan, who took gold in 2:04.15, while another Chinese swimmer, Xinyang Zhou, claimed bronze in a time of 2:05.65.
Both return to action on Friday with McSharry in the 100m breaststroke, while Walshe goes the 400m individual medley.
