Ipswich fan Alan told BBC Radio Suffolk's The Blue Hour that summer signing Zian Flemming reminds him of former Town striker Liam Delap and that Gary O'Neil's side have their "strongest" set of forwards for a while.

Flemming arrived from Burnley for £20m after impressing in front of goal with 11 Premier League goals in a campaign that ultimately ended in the Clarets being relegated, and he is already off the mark with Ipswich after his late winner against Crystal Palace.

In the Tractor Boys' previous campaign in the top flight, Delap led the line under former boss Kieran McKenna and notched 12 goals before making the switch to Chelsea. His physical style of play helped him adapt quickly to facing top-class defenders week in, week out and Alan says he sees similar traits in new boy Flemming.

"He seems to have a bit of Delap about him," he said. "He's got that bolshy, put-himself-about approach and we've missed that.

"It's the strongest we've been at number nine for a long time."

On Town managing five points from their first five league games and what the targets should be before the next international break, Alan added: "I'd like more. I think we can keep the momentum up. Saturday [against Fulham at Portman Road] is so massive. Three points would be a brilliant way to start again and I think we can pick up two or three elsewhere."

After Fulham, O'Neil's side have home games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth, plus trips to Manchester City and Hull City before another international break.

"Seven would be my target out of that. That would be a really good next block," said Alan.
