Josh Windass will miss Wrexham's Championship fixture against West Bromwich Albion, although manager Phil Parkinson says the forward's ankle injury is not as serious as first feared.

Windass was forced off after 15 minutes of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Derby County and will sit out Tuesday's game at the Racecourse (19:45 BST).

The 32-year-old had only recently returned after missing pre-season and the opening weeks of the 2026-27 campaign with a calf problem.

"It's very swollen and he's had a scan. It's not as serious as we first feared," said Parkinson.

"He caught his foot in the ground and damaged his ligaments. Josh is going to need time for that swelling to come out of the ankle joint."

Windass made 46 appearances and scored 17 goals in his first season with Wrexham after joining from Sheffield Wednesday.

He has featured six times in the current campaign after returning at the end of August.

Parkinson said: "He's eager to miss as little time as possible, as you can imagine, because he'd had his pre-season in those last few games before the international break and had a good three weeks."

Tuesday's meeting with West Brom will be Wrexham's 10th league game of the campaign.

Parkinson's side are 15th in the Championship, one place lower than they were at the same stage last season.

"In general the performances have been good but it's that finer detail, certainly at the top end of the pitch," said Parkinson.

"At the weekend we had moments where the ball could have gone across the goal and tap-ins were available and we missed the target in situations.

"We've got to tidy up in those areas and I feel we've got the players capable of doing that.

"We've had quite a few draws and we've talked about turning those draws into wins

"We managed that against Southampton - we were driving on towards the end of the game and conscious of the importance of turning one point into three.

"The lads are really focused on what's required and we are a looking to chalk off the first 10 games with another good performance."
