Wrexham boss pleased to see transfer window close

Phil Parkinson says he is pleased that the summer transfer window has closed as his Wrexham side ignited their campaign with a 3-0 victory over Millwall.

Striker Kieffer Moore and summer signing Jacques Ekomie both netted after Zak Sturge's first-half own goal as the Red Dragons won in style in the English capital.

Five of the Red Dragons' seven summer additions featured in the triumph over the Lions.

And having clinched a first Championship win of the season, Parkinson hopes his side can now kick-on amid some uncertainty within his squad during the latter stages of the window.

"I'm pleased the transfer window has closed, I've got to be honest with you," he said.

"I'm very pleased with the lads we've just brought in, Joe [Worrall] and Callum [O'Hare], I think they're two really good signings for us. They'll fit in really well with how we want to play.

"But in that last week of the window, there's uncertainty, people looking over their shoulders at who is coming in, people are thinking 'am I going to go?'.

"We had players who were close to leaving, so I'm just pleased it's closed and we can focus on the group."

Neither side managed a shot on target in the opening half at The Den, although Wrexham went ahead on 28 minutes as Issa Kabore's cross was deflected into the Millwall net by Sturge.

Wales international Moore added his side's second with a stunning 20-yard strike shortly after half-time before left wing-back Ekomie completed the rout with his first goal for the club.

"We won here last year, and that was a strong performance, but I think today was a performance of far more quality," added Parkinson.

"It showed where the team has progressed to. These are a good side, Millwall, they're a hard team to play at home and away.

"I thought we controlled the game for long periods tonight."

Moore's strike was his second of the campaign following his goal in the 1-1 draw with his former club Cardiff City on the opening weekend of the season.

Boss Parkinson was full of praise for the 34-year-old following his pivotal role in the Red Dragons' triumph over Alex Neil's outfit.

"Kieffer was good, wasn't he?" Parkinson added.

"He's up against three 6ft 5in centre-backs. That's tough. He gets battered from pillar to post.

"But he kept the ball, his ball retention was really good and he deserved that goal today."
