Jersey Bulls 'got away with it' despite FA Cup win

Jersey Bulls manager Elliot Powell said his side "got away with it" after they came from behind to beat Sheerwater FC 4-1 in their FA Cup preliminary round tie on Saturday.

The home side went a goal down after 12 minutes in an opening half an hour riddled with errors and miscommunication.

They eventually clicked into gear, with summer signing Sammy Henia-Kamau scoring a hat-trick and Lorne Bickley finishing off a well-worked move.

Powell, whose side will next visit Burgess Hill Town in the competition in September, said he was "not overly pleased with the performance".

"For 25 minutes we were poor, but then we had a bit of individual quality which got us ahead in the game," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

"The second half was much, much better, and more like us, but we can't afford to play like we did in the first 25 minutes in the league."

Powell reaffirmed the club's desire to reach the first round proper of the FA Cup.

"I thought we were unlucky last year to lose out to a professional side, but our ambition has got to be to go one further," he said.

"Everyone's dream is to get to the first round proper and to be playing at one of those big grounds, like at Sheffield Wednesday or Leicester.

"So, that is our ambition and we'll have a good go at it, but the league is still the priority."

Jersey Bulls currently sit sixth in the Isthmian League South Central Division.
