Jersey is in a good place to host the 2035 Island Games, according to the head of Jersey's Island Games Association.

Jersey first outlined hopes to host the biennial event for a third time two years ago, having previously staged the 1995 and 2015 editions.

Around 3,000 people are expected to attend the next Island Games in the Faroe Islands next July where 24 islands will compete across 14 sports.

"We're in a place, I think, where we can actually put on the Games," Steve Jacobs told BBC Radio Jersey.

"We've got a lot more hotels investing over here, which is always the issue with accommodation, so I think it would be good."

2035 marks the 50th anniversary of the Island Games, which were set up to give small islands the chance to compete against one another.

In that time the event has grown from around 700 people to its current size, which had led to issues over accommodation and costs - Jersey's government has given a grant of £150,000 to help fund athletes travel to the Faroe Islands next summer.

"We're in a good place," added Jacobs.

"But we'll be starting to talk to the international organising committee next year to get the information to them to make sure that we can actually host the games, because it is getting more and more difficult.

"It showcases all of the sporting community, and the last games they got really involved in as well.

"In fact, they went to stay at hotels, some of the sports to just get into the atmosphere so you didn't have to go home and feed the dog and things like that.

"It was a brilliant time and everyone loved it and I'm sure everyone would like it back again."
