Lucy Sparrow stitches life into everyday objects, creating a vibrant world of felt that looks just like the real thing. Following the success of her New York City bagel store and British fish and chip shop, she has now recreated a Walmart convenience store in Arkansas, USA, complete with TV dinners and vintage VHS films from the 1980s. Anna Bailey follows Lucy and her small team in the east of England as they cut out, stitch and paint 20,000 individual felt items for the exhibition, including smiling cauliflowers and bananas. Lucy has been making things from felt since childhood and wants to celebrate the everyday objects which fill our lives. But a word of warning: although her art looks soft and appealing, in this programme Lucy will be talking about her lived experience of an eating disorder and her struggles with her mental health.
