Heggebø banned for 'handball goal'

West Bromwich Albion

Available for over a year

Albion striker Aune Heggebø has been banned for two games over his controversial goal at Norwich in the Championship. The ball struck the Norwegian striker's hand before ending up in the net at Carrow Road and the Baggies went on to win 2-1. The incident wasn't spotted by the match officials at the time, but the 25-year-old was later charged by the Football Association with misconduct for "successfully deceiving a match official by handling the ball in a direct successful attempt to score a goal". The club appealed against the charge in the belief it was accidental, stating the ball's deflection off the Norwich goalkeeper "materially affected the ball's trajectory", but the appeal was rejected.
