Downsizing, Grey Blending and Back-to-School Costs

You and Yours

Available for over a year

Have you considered downsizing? A new report estimates most over-65s are living in homes bigger than they need. While downsizing may give them more manageable homes and boost the housing market, many are wondering how much is really in it for them. Get in touch with your experiences around downsizing, which will also be the subject of tomorrow's Call You and Yours. Back-to-school season is upon us, and for many families is more expensive than ever. On top of the traditional spending on uniform, shoes and stationery, we look at recent evidence of increased back-to-school costs in the tech age: laptops, tablets, smartphones and online access. We speak to The Library Of Things - a resource for people to borrow items they are unlikely to use frequently, like power drills or carpet vacuums, rather than waste money and storage on their own. Grey blending - the technique of enhancing grey hair as your dye needs re-doing - has risen in popularity. We find out what is leading people to turn away from traditional highlights and embrace the grey. And we receive lots of emails about utilities - from bills being unexpectedly high to services not meeting expectations. But when you've complained repeatedly to no avail, what's the best way to get it resolved? We're running a 'Utilities Surgery' with some experts, to help answer some of your common (and less common) questions. PRESENTER: SHARI VAHL PRODUCER: LYDIA THOMAS
