Elizabeth Alker introduces an afternoon of great summer music making with concert performances from home and abroad including highlights from the BBC Proms, plus exclusive recordings from the Verbier Music Festival and the Granada Music Festival. Today on Classical Live, there is another chance to hear Tuesday night’s prom from the Royal Albert Hall. Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony is performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel. And from the night before, we also hear Bartók’s exhilarating Concerto for Orchestra, with the Juilliard Orchestra and the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. The programme also visits the Verbier Festival for Saint-Saëns’s sparkling Introduction and Rondo capriccioso, performed by violinist Marc Bouchkov and pianist Julien Quentin. And from the Granada Festival of Early Music, Odhecaton and conductor Paolo da Col perform Josquin des Prez’s radiant motet O bone et dulcissime Jesu. From Copenhagen, comes two chamber music highlights: Grażyna Bacewicz’s spirited First Piano Quintet and Poulenc’s elegant Flute Sonata.
