 Are they the unsung heroes of society?
The proportion of men becoming stepfathers in this country has doubled in the last 12 years. Social - as opposed to biological -parenting is the new phenomenon in family life.
Woman's Hour looks at how difficult it is to introduce a new father figure into a family, how the children react and how hard is it for a man to take on a ready-made family. Stepfathers and stepchildren tell their stories.
