On her great grandmother's extraordinary recipe book
As a child, Frances Osborne was intrigued by her extraordinarily elegant 100 year old great-grandmother, Lilla Eckford.
There were the hints of secrets in Lilla's past and then there was the comprehensive recipe book Lilla had written while starving in a Japanese camp during the Second World War.
The book is now kept at the Imperial War Museum. It includes pages of inspirational recipes for things as diverse as Irish stew, shrimp vermicelli, and Monkey Gland cocktails, as well as offering practical advice on cooking, housekeeping and entertaining.
