Set up to provide women writers with an inspiring place to work
Virginia Woolf said that if a woman wanted to write she needed a room of her own. She also needed money. Even today it can be hard for a woman to find the time, space and finances to write undisturbed, free from family commitments, community duties and noise.
In 2001 Sarah Hosking set up the Hosking Houses Trust, with the aim of giving at least a few established women writers aged over 40 a quiet and inspiring place to work. Jessica Barons was the first writer, appointed in 2002.
Caroline Swinburne visits Clifford Chambers and meets Jessica and Sarah.
Sarah Hosking has recently secured funding for the second writer through the Foundation for Sport and the Arts. So if you think you might fit the bill then contact Hosking Houses Trust
