Is it appropriate to pose naked to raise money for rape victims?
A group of women from Gloucestershire have gone a stage further along the well-trodden trail of Calendar Girls.
Not only have they stripped off to produce a calendar for charity, but the cause they have chosen is that of Rwandan women who were raped in the genocide ten years ago, many of whom are now infected with HIV.
Is this a case of using nudity to empower women? Or is it insensitive to the women whose bodies were so abused in Rwanda?
Woman's Hour talks to:
- Angela Williams, the photographer who took the pictures in the calendar.
- Jo Hofman, who was involved in instigating the project and posed for one of the pictures.
- Mary Kayitesi Blewitt founder of Survivor's Fund, a charity which aims to help survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda .
- Dr Nirmal Puwar lecturer in Sociology at Northampton University + the Author of "Space Invaders: Race, Gender and Bodies out of Place"
Nirmal Puwar's book: "Space Invaders: Race, Gender and Bodies out of Place" published by Berg, ISBN 1 85973 659 9 .
