Pregnant women and alcohol 20 August 2004
How pregnant women are taking on wine producers

The French are known for their wine production and their love of wine. However French wine producers are up in arms at the moment.

A pressure group of women whose babies were born with foetal alcohol syndrome has taken on the government to ensure that all alcohol bears warnings about the dangers of drinking during pregnancy.

The wine producers see this as a ridiculous attack on their product which has been safely consumed, in moderation, for centuries.

Ritula Shah speaks to Benoit Titran, the lawyer who has taken on this case and to a French journalist, Benedicte Paviot. She also talks to consultant obstetrician, Maggie Blott.
