Teaching parents how to help their children with homework

Anyone who's tried to help a child with homework recently will have found a distinct generation gap. Children understand Vowel diagraphs and graphemes; partitioning and compensating. But if parents don't understand what their children are talking about how are they to help them with the dreaded homework.

In West Kent, schools have recognised the information gap between what parents learnt at school and the new techniques they're now using with pupils. Throughout the county, parents are being invited to return to the classroom, whether or not they already have a degree in maths and awards for spelling.

Sara Parker went along to see how Laura Marsden the course tutor fares with her new older pupils. While 9 year old Jack from Paddock Wood Primary School hopes his mother might learn a thing or two.
