Is HRT safe after all? 28 June 2004
New research questions health risks associated with HRT

It's nearly two years since one of the biggest American studies of Hormone Replacement Therapy, the Women's Health Inititiative, was partly halted because researchers said their results showed it was too dangerous to carry on. They had, they said, found there was too much increased risk of heart disease and breast cancer.

The finding cast a cloud over HRT use and thousands of women are thought to have stopped taking the treatment as a result. But, a new research project carried out at Yale University, says the original work was fatally flawed. Jenni discusses the issues with Dr John Stevenson, a consultant metabolic physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London.
