Driftmachine and Andy Ammer: Electronic experimenters
In a studio in Berlin, experimental duo Driftmachine and sound artist Andy Ammer create unique sounds from vintage synthesisers.
Gareth Mitchell has a rare glimpse into the creative world of German electronic musicians, generating unique sounds from vintage synthesisers. Sound artist Andy Ammer joins Driftmachine duo Andreas Gerth and Florian Zimmer in Berlin’s Studio for Electro Acoustic Music to build a soundscape for a reading of a poem by Lord Byron. We hear how they manipulate sounds like a squeaky bridge and an old tractor – and use what’s believed to be the only working example of the rare Supercord synthesiser, built in the former East Germany in the early 1960s.
