with Darius Rucker

A special Icons Edition of the show celebrating National Album Day 2026! Darius takes a look at some of the defining albums and artists of the genre, from Johnny Cash to Ella Langley and all stops inbetween!

You'll hear music from the likes of Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Morgan Wallen, Shania Twain, Luke Combs and Darius explains why a country album isn't necessarily an album as we know it - except when it is!

There are long albums, short albums, concept albums, collections of hits, film soundtracks and more, all to celebrate National Album Day 2026! To listen to the other programmes in the collection, just search for "icons" in BBC Sounds!

Country superstar Darius Rucker is a multi-million selling artist in not one, but two genres! He started off as the lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish - first album went platinum 22 times over! - and then transitioned into a solo career as a country star, with signature hits like the billion-streaming "Wagon Wheel" which he performed to huge acclaim at last year's Opry 100 celebration in London's Royal Albert Hall.
