Miles Davis Centenary

Trumpet soloist Ambrose Akinmusire joins the BBC Concert Orchestra, his trio and conductor Miho Hazama to celebrate the centenary of Miles Davis, a true legend of the jazz world.

Trumpeter, bandleader and composer Miles Davis transformed jazz over five decades with music that embraced the world around him – a new and exhilarating collage of sounds creating 'cool' jazz, hard bop, jazz/rock fusion and exploring classical and folk influences - where Miles led, everyone else followed.

The BBC Proms marks Miles' centenary with a concert reflecting these diverse influences including works by Rodrigo and Gershwin alongside his large scale projects created with arranger Gil Evans and his own hits. Trumpet soloist Ambrose Akinmusire joins the BBC Concert Orchestra, his trio and conductor Miho Hazama to celebrate a true legend of jazz.

Presented by Jamie Cullum.
