Security

Donna signs up as security guard at the local supermarket. Her grown-up daughter has gone AWOL, and her life’s in a rut. But it only takes one shoplifter to ruin her plans.

Kelly Jones' debut drama for BBC Radio 4.

Security is a darkly funny drama about being pushed to our limits. What happens when you’ve had enough? In a hostile world how do you find the power to make a difference? Can personal acts of kindness create real change, or are they just feel-good gestures. How far can rebellion go?

Donna and Dean’s adult daughter Sara has been missing for several months, so to help her sanity, Donna takes a job as a security guard at the big supermarket round the corner. Dean thinks it’s too soon after what happened, but Donna’s grateful for the distraction - she wants to keep her head down and her mind occupied. Then Donna spots her first shoplifter – single mum Marie.
