Image source, EPA/ShutterstockNew York Attorney General Letitia James has taken charge of the investigation into the alleged rape of a woman at Cornell University in 2024.
As top legal officer for the state, James is perhaps best known for bringing the civil fraud case against Donald Trump and his company in 2022 that saw him found liable of falsifying business records to secure better loan deals.
James is the first woman to be appointed the state's chief law enforcement officer since 2019 and has pursued several other high-profile investigations and trials.
In 2021, she also investigated sexual misconduct allegations into Andrew Cuomo that led to his resignation as governor of New York.
Last year, President Trump pushed officials to legally pursue James for federal bank fraud charges - allegations that were ultimately dismissed twice by separate grand juries. James said at the time that the action was politically motivated.
