Jersey man smashes channel record
A Jersey man has broken the record for swimming from the island to France.

Ian Jones made the crossing in seven hours, 47 minutes, more than half an hour faster than the previous holder.

Mr Jones is only the seventh swimmer to complete the 14.8 nautical miles between La Coupe Point in Jersey, and northern France.

His time smashes the previous record of Lt Commander Tim Lawrence, from the US Air Force, who swam the stretch in eight hours, 21 minutes.
